Villages of Exo Meria

Kardiani The first village in Exo Meria, in the southwestern part of Tinos, is nestled on the slopes of Mount Pateleas at an altitude of 240 meters, with a view overlooking Syros. Surrounded by lush vegetation and abundant springs, it boasts impressive stone-vaulted structures, the Catholic church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary - Kioura, and higher up, the Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity with its unique six-arched dome, a rarity in the Cyclades. Isternia The village of the marble sculptors, amphitheatrically built on the slope of Mount Merobiglia, at an altitude of 300-340 meters above the small harbor of Ysternia. As you admire the abundance of fountains, busts, and statues, you'll realize that renowned sculptors, such as the Fytalai and Malakate brothers, Georgios Vitalis, Lazaros Lameras, Antonis, and Lefteris Sochos, created their masterpieces here. You can admire their works at the Ysternia Artists Museum, housed in the old school. Visit the N. Glynis Square, the Byzantine church of Agia Paraskevi, and the Heroon honoring the fallen of 1912 and 1940. Plateia- Venardados Nestled in the northern part of Tinos, this tiny village boasts a wealth of historical and religious attractions. Among the highlights are the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the Heroon of the fallen Panormites during the Balkan Wars, and a museum showcasing ecclesiastical treasures. In Venardado, you'll discover the church of Saint John the Theologian, featuring a remarkable marble iconostasis and frescoes by Nikos Gaitis. Hidden amidst the trees of a ravine, you'll also stumble upon the chapel of Saint Phanourios. Pyrgos Surrounded by the peaks of Patela, Meroviglia, Prophet Elias, and Kaki Skala, the homeland of Chalepas, Nikiforos Lytras, and Yannis Gaitis, experienced a significant cultural and artistic boom during the 18th and 19th centuries, thanks to the exploitation of the region's white and green marble deposits. As you walk along Giannoulis Chalepas Street, passing by the Museum of Tinos Artists and Chalepas's house, you will see coats of arms, traditional costumes, lintels, thresholds, fountains, inscriptions, busts, alleys, carved tables—all crafted from marble. Panormos Panormos, the natural harbor of Pyrgos, is located at the northeastern tip of Tinos, 35 km from Chora. The islet of Planitis, with its ruined lighthouse, sits at the center of the bay, creating a picturesque setting. Since the 1970s, this once small fishing village has undergone significant tourist development, making it the most important holiday resort in the area. The beautiful harbor offers a variety of fish taverns for those who enjoy fresh seafood and cafes for relaxation with views of the moored fishing boats and yachts.
